Many of the top managers confess that team motivation is a kind of an art. You have to have a talent or need to learn the proper motivation skills.

Motivation TechniquesThey find it easy to present and supply sales team training on selling skills, but what about motivation techniques. To motivate a sales person you need to offer a regular boost of self motivation. It can take time to constantly find new and refreshing ideas, and give different angles and perspectives on how to get into the most effective selling state.

Secrets of motivating offered here will give you a sales training and motivation program for your sales team using a minimum amount of time. It uses the free resources available on the Internet and it won’t cost you a penny. It also gets your team involved from the start and asks them to contribute as the idea grows in size and benefits.

How it worked for my sales teams

The objective is to build a list of free online sales training and motivation resources available on the Internet and use them in an ongoing motivation program. You probably have some links saved in your favourites list. Your sales team will have some as well.

As a starting point imagine if you had a list of links to all those sales and motivation websites you already know about, all in one easy to access place. This is how I started when looking at how to motivate employees in my sales teams. Then we added all the other sites we came across that had effective sales training or good motivation techniques.

How to put these motivation technique sinto action today

Here’s how to put this sales team training into action with your sales teams. First, build the list of good quality links to websites. Present the idea of building an Internet based training and motivation resource to your sales team. Show them a few examples of websites that you use for sales training and information.

Ask them to submit their own. Get them to go through their favourites list on their PC’s, log into their search history, and ask them to click around the Internet to find new and interesting websites. Get them involved, show them the benefits, and ask for their feedback.

Decide where to keep the list of links

Decide upon the best place to keep your list of sales and motivation websites. You want somewhere that is easy to access, will be remembered, and is accessible by all the sales team. It must also be somewhere that the information and new links can be added regularly. If your organisation has a company intranet then that may be a good place to start building your sales training resource. Shared drives and folders are another good place to park the list of links. You might think of other ideas such as sending it out in a company newsletter, or simply emailing the list to your sales team on a regular basis.

Add some information to each link

To make this list of sales team training and motivation links effective, add a brief description to each link. It only needs a few comments to indicate if the link is about motivation techniques, sales training, or product and industry knowledge. Ask your team to add these comments when they submit a new link to be added to the list. You could take this further and add a rating system from 1 to 5 on how effective and useful they think the website is.

Keep the list updated

Keep the list updated and over time you will build an enormous resource of sales training and motivation techniques. The more comprehensive the descriptions and comments about the website are the more effective and useful your list will be.

Think what could happen if you expand and develop the use of this free resource. What if you included more people within your organisation and expanded the topics covered by this list of websites. As long as the list is separated into categories for each topic, and perhaps even a contents page written, it will remain useful and effective.

Add a motivation training schedule

Once we brought all these great website links together we set certain times of the week to make the best use of these motivation techniques. Motivation training works best in short bursts with specific objectives. There a certain times of the week when a quick burst of motivation, a new sales training idea, or examples of proven marketing techniques, are most effective.

Monday morning after a weekend break 15 minutes on a good website, with short sharp self motivation techniques, can get you into a selling state. Friday morning we have found clicking on websites with time management, or prospecting tips, which can be used the following week, can have a great effect.

When you have a tough day facing difficult objections and can’t close sales, then a sales training site is a good way to finish the day. These are examples of how we use these sales team training motivation techniques. You can adapt them, develop them, and find how to motivate your employees using a list of good Internet links. The sales team have bought into the idea because they helped to build the list.

A lot of managers do not posses the right skills for team motivation. Motivating a sales team is harder than you think.

Secrets Of MotivatingMany managers tell me that some of their reps are already motivated and don’t need their help in that area (usually the Top 20%), but that the majority seem to need constant motivating, mentoring, counseling, or out right babysitting. Sound familiar?

When asked what to do, I tell them there is only so much they can do because true motivation comes from within — in other words, each member of their team is already motivated. There are, however, 5 things you can do to get the most out of your sales team and keep motivation and morale high. Here’s what they are –

#1) Make your monthly revenue goal, and each rep’s part of that goal, crystal clear. I’m sure you have a monthly revenue goal, but does each member of your sales team know what their specific part of that goal is? (Hint — it’s not all equal).

Recognize that some reps will produce much more of the overall goal than others, but also make sure each one is clear on what their part of that overall goal is.

#2) Individualize the bonuses or prizes. The problem with most bonus programs is that as soon as they are released, over one-half of the sales team knows they can’t win so they are more discouraged than encouraged to produce. Customize each rep’s bonus based on their individual production goal. This ensures every body has a chance to win and thus will be motivated.

#3) Get out of your office and close some deals. Most managers are way too busy in meetings, or reporting, or just plain hiding out to be really effective. Remember one thing — as the manager, you are the leader.

And leaders lead by example. Want to motivate your team, make your numbers, and create real value for yourself? Go onto the floor and close business for some of your sales reps and help them make their revenue goals. This is the most important thing you can do not only for your bottom line, but for your team’s motivation as well.

#4) Invest $100 in a couple of trophies. The best money you’ll ever spend — make one a "Weekly most improved" or "Best effort" and hand it out each Monday morning. Each winner gets to keep it on their desk that week.

The other trophy can be either "Most deals," or "Most new clients" or whatever other category everyone has a chance to win (as long as it is revenue related). Again, hand it out in your Monday morning sales meeting, and each week the winner gets to keep it on their desk. Rule #1 in motivating: recognition among peers is almost always more important than money.

#5) Have some fun! Go to a toy store and buy one of those beanbag tosses, and after lunch on Friday make some teams and have some fun playing as a team. Tack on $50 for good measure and watch the competition and fun build your team and dissolve stress. This works – try it!

So there you have it. Inexpensive, proven techniques to build morale, motivate and make more money.

For boosting employee motivation invest in and give each member of your team a copy of my new CD series , "The Secrets of the Top 20% – How to Double Your Income Selling over the Phone." That alone will turn some of your sales reps into Top 20% producers and then they will forever be motivated from within — the ultimate motivation!

Good employee motivation is essential for any successful business. But unfortunately not all leaders posses the right motivation skills.

Boosting Employee MotivationThe challenge today is that a lot of managers want to know how to motivate their employees. A better question however, is "How do I create a climate that is motivational for my employees?" Here are five simple tips that help to create an inspiring work culture and increase employee motivation.

Tips For Team Motivation

Managers have to understand that their mood weighs far more than anyone else’s on the team. When an employee is in a bad mood most of the team will dismiss it. When the manager is in a bad mood everybody notices.

When managers arrive at work frustrated, stressed, and in a stormy mood, it will erode employee motivation. So when you come to work, make a decision before you open that door to arrive in good spirits, full of optimism, and ready to go.

2. Make sure people know what you expect

Ambiguity can stifle team motivation. When employees know exactly where you are going as a team, and when they know exactly what is expected of them, they will require less direction and prodding from you. Make sure your staff is clear about expectations, and are constantly reminded of the vision and goals of the company.

3. Provide regular feedback

People want to know how they are doing. It is important for a manager to provide ongoing feedback for their staff. This covers both positive feedback, and constructive criticism. Some managers only give feedback when something is wrong. This will lead to a staff that wonders when and if they are doing anything right.

Other managers only give out positive feedback which is great, but if you never offer any constructive feedback for their improvement they will begin to distrust you. Employee motivation is fueled in part by knowing where we are and where we have to go. Give regular feedback.

4. Help people grow

Everybody wants to grow and develop. In today’s world employees know they have to become more and more valuable in order to stay competitive. In fact one of the elements people most want from their job is a chance to grow and develop. If you can find ways to provide ongoing development for your people it will help boost their motivation. It does not have to be big, but they have to see tangible efforts being made to help them grow.

5. Give people choice

An integral part of intrinsic motivation is autonomy. When people feel autonomous, they feel they are in control of their own destinies. In a work setting this is demonstrated when people have choice in how to do their job. When you micromanage an employee they feel like they have very little choice. This kills employee motivation because they feel more like a prisoner than a trusted part of the team.

Employee motivation has many facets but the manager who learns to apply some of these principles can go a long way in creating a motivating work environment. Remember, it’s not so much how you motivate a person, as it is how you create a motivational environment where your employees will motivate themselves.

You can own the best business in the world but without proper team motivation you just wont get the anticipated results.

http://www.teammotivation.org/A top editor of a B2B publication giant in Mumbai hardly asks prospective employees to get their bio-data. He asks them only what their hobbies are and what they are interested in. That is the secret of his loyal staff. He has never lost a good worker unless a very tempting offer comes in the way.

At a time, when attrition is the buzz word in many top multinational companies, BPOs and even smaller companies there are lessons beyond the manuals that help leaders to motivate your team. Sometimes what a bio-data cannot achieve, a motivated employ can work wonders despite lack of experience on the job.

There are no secrets in ideas for team motivation. Yes, increments, words of encouragement and regular picnics do help. But inspiring staff is much more than that. There are little things that make a great difference to the way people work for each other (and not under strain). Like children, even adults need regular praise and recognition in their work.

People spend more time in their offices than at home. So getting to make the office atmosphere more amiable and encouraging proves to be useful. Most employees moonlight on the sly so they really do not want to see the color of money every now and then as a raise. What they want is appreciation and praise. How many managers or employers are expressive enough to do these little things that make a difference?

Many companies have innovate ideas to keep loyal employees on their payrolls- Seasonal and annual gifts during festive season, mention in the corporate news letter on achieving targets, even taking them out for movies for great team building! The equations have changed in today’s world. Independent thinkers are capable of putting in their papers for more lucrative landmarks in their personal careers. Office politics can get vicious and boring after a time. Some employees stay motivated only till the time their friends remain or the pretty operator in the lobby. Employers need not look beyond their own cabins to motivate their team. In some offices abroad, office romances are being encouraged to retain staff and keep them working overtime. Now that is a radical way, but it has worked for some!

There are advantages of team motivation. For starters, the sense of achieving targets, creativity and improving results can keep everyone on a high. Young leaders have inspired their old employees to work for them. This has virtually made the Birlas a force to reckon with when a young Aditya Birla walked in to take charge from the old vanguard from illustrious G K Birla.

A dynamic leader, a good communicator and providing challenges have helped many employers to keep a team stimulated at work. In the last 75 years, Reliance Industries has remained motivated despite the demise of the patriarch Dhirubhai Ambani. Gone are the days when a hire and fire policy worked. Today raise and praise do a better job.

Here are some great ideas on how to motivate your team. Team motivation is a crucial for overall success of any business or sport.

Ideas For Team MotivationIt’s one thing to motivate yourself, but how to get others going? First, you need to be charged up. Picture the scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when Ben Stein is teaching economics. Does this remind you of your team meetings? If so, you have some work to do on yourself.

The truth is, you really can’t motivate other people if they won’t let you. What kind of rapport do you have with your team? Do they trust you? Do they respect you? There are many managers who either separate themselves from their team, or go into collusion with them.

You can’t expect a dictatorial or patriarchal approach to truly motivate anyone. Sure, they may put on a great act, but you will never really get through to them. Or if you bemoan the current economic conditions, or the troublesome customers or lack thereof, you may have gained some drinking buddies, but they will never trust you to push them forward.

You need to be a true leader who inspires and enrolls the team with your vision and to know the tricks of maintaining team motivation. You need to BE the leader. Are you convinced that you can lead? Do you fully believe in your mission? Do you live the values of your organization? You see, it’s far more important for a leader to be respected than liked. If the team likes you, they will tolerate you; if they respect you, they will trust you to lead them.

Then, the team needs to have a common goal and each team member must have individual development and productivity goals. These goals must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results oriented, and tied to a Timeline. The team needs to know what they are shooting for.

Next, understand what motivates your people. Some say that money is the all-important factor. The best ways to use monetary incentives is to tie them to a contest, or sporadically (and privately) give a bonus for a specific reason. While motivating, keep in mind that the effects of monetary incentives are temporary. Pay your employees fairly, and you won’t hear complaining about money (and you won’t have to worry so much about theft).

Recognition is far more powerful because it lasts. When you recognize your team, both as a group and individually, for their contribution, you will have made a huge investment in their emotional bank account. IMPORTANT: recognition must be sincere and meaningful, and incentives need to be somewhat tangible, such as: a special parking spot, a dinner where you serve them, a plaque that is prominently displayed, etc.

There is nothing more powerful to help your business succeed than a motivated team. So, how will you develop as a leader and what actions will you take to get the team going?
